Can you trust anything James Arthur Ray says?

Over the years I've learned NOT to trust Mr Ray's statements. A lot of the things he states as fact, are pretty easy to check up on. As he's currently fighting so hard to get probation time, I thought I'd run a quick background check on some of his more recent statements.

James Arthur Ray has stated he has no company and that his corporation is no longer active. I ran a corporation search on the California Secretary of State's website, which still lists James Ray International as an active California Corporation. Additionally his corporate website has been redesigned with new graphics, a video showing him being touted by Oprah (I wonder if Oprah knows he's using her image and videos to sell himself online), and is offering James Arthur Ray products for sale.

So, either James Arthur Ray simply forgot to shut down his corporation and business website ::: or he's lying and still intends to continue on with business as usual.

Visit the Secretary of State's website and run your own corporate search at: http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/

Mr Ray says his home has been repossessed. This statement is simply not true. While the foreclosure process may have been started, a bank short sale has been approved, and is currently pending. Unlike in a foreclosure, the bank does not own the property in a short sale. So once again, it would appear Mr Ray has exagerated ::: ahem ::: lied.

DEFENDANT JAMES ARTHUR RAY’S
PRESENTENCING MEMORANDUM

Mr. Ray is a 54 year-old man with no prior criminal history, including arrests or convictions, a demonstrated record of good character and community service, and who has been convicted of unintentional, non-violent crimes for which he, like many others touched by the tragedy, feels devastation and extreme sorrow. He is not and has never been violent, and he poses no risk to society. To the contrary, he is an integral part of a loving family and a relied-upon care give to his ailing parents: Joyce Ray, who has metastasized thyroid cancer, and his father, Gordon Ray, who suffers from dementia. The state’s attempt to minimize Mr. Ray’s good character by depicting him as wealthy is mistaken. Mr. Ray is unable to pay his bills, and his house has been foreclosed on. He now lives with his parents, and if this Court grants probation, would continue to reside with and care for them.

In his legal pleadings Mr Ray keeps professing what a good upstanding person he is and has been. While some could argue I'm being nit picky, I don't believe the average person would ever accrue the amount of debt (both business and personal) that Mr Ray has over the years. I also don't believe the average person would sit back and do absolutely NOTHING while people were dying less than 10 feet away. If that isn't violent behavior ::: I don't know what is.

Are James Arthur Ray's actions indicative of an inherently dishonest person? In my book, yeah ::: but then I'm an old fuddy duddy with very definite ideas about what does and does not constitute honest upstanding behavior. I don't believe taking people's money and using it to finance your legal fees is honest or right ::: nor should it be legal. But then I'm funny that way.

We've all heard how much Mr Ray loves fast expensive cars. Which is all good when you're on a racing track or out in the middle of no where and you can open up ::: but speeding in a crowded city is a whole different animal. Which is why I posted his speeding ticket below, (he has more) to show how reckless the guy has been in his personal life. Driving over 65 on regular streets puts EVERYONE in danger.

Recently James Arthur Ray has started saying how sorry he is that people died "accidentally" (his word not mine) during the sweat lodge. If that were true he would have spent more time apologizing to the victims than scrambling to cover his sorry ass. The fact that while facing possible incarceration, he suddenly expresses remorse is so much BS.

When it comes down to it, despite all his protestations to the contrary, James Arthur Ray is a liar, a thief and a very dangerous man. He has a long history of skirting the law on issues both small and large. Just because you weren't caught until now, doesn't mean you're Lilly white and clean. Had no one died at Spiritual Warrior 2009, Mr Ray would have continued on as he had in the past. If he doesn't get jail time or legal restraints place upon his future activities ::: he'll just pick up where he left off.

James Arthur Ray's lawyers has stated Mr Ray has settled all his lawsuits. Below are listed ONLY the lawsuits from San Diego and Orange County, California. Information which may be obtained free of charge online. There are many more lawsuits which have been filed against Mr. Ray in various other states.

I welcome any and all comments. If you think I'm being unreasonable and/or too tough on Mr Ray, please feel free to respond below and tell me why. I'll be more than happy to post your side of things.

Lastly, my heart goes out to James Arthur Ray's Mom and Dad. I worked in the medical field for decades ::: as such I've been a caregiver for most of my adult life. Additionally I was a caregiver to both my parents, my husband's parents and various other family members.

THEFT
In common usage, theft is the illegal taking of another person's property without that person's permission or consent.[1][2] The word is also used as an informal shorthand term for some crimes against property, such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, robbery, shoplifting and fraud.[1][2] In some jurisdictions, theft is considered to be synonymous with larceny;[2] in others, theft has replaced larceny. Someone who carries out an act of or makes a career of theft is known as a thief. The act of theft is known by terms such as stealing, thieving, and filching.[2]
Theft is the name of a statutory offense in California, Canada, England and Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and Victoria.[citation needed]

ELEMENTS of THEFT
The actus reus of theft is usually defined as an unauthorized taking, keeping or using of an other's property which must be accompanied by a mens rea of dishonesty and/or the intent to permanently deprive the owner or the person with rightful possession of that property or its use.

  2. Excellent uncovering Jeannika! Really! That website of James' frightens me.. he is set to go right back to his old ways of teaching, leading, guiding and yes, probably attempting to run an event or two. He's even planning an iPhone app.

James Ray hasn't changed one bit since all of this. It hasn't humbled him, made him sorry for what he's done or how he's conducted his life or business. The ONLY reason why he isn't continuing to do more of the same now, is because he got caught -he was arrested. He should be forbidden from leading and teaching people, on the phone, internet, in person, through email or mail. Let him go back to telemarketing.

James Ray's mother is sick because of James. She gave her life to him. She loved him like no other, her first born, her pride and joy. She gave him her retirement to save his floundering business, not once, but twice. It's killing her that he did this and this is going on . What's he's done is eating at her.. and so she developed a disease that reflects that in her body.. a cancer that is eating at her. James is directly responsible for his mother's cancer. Does he get that? Probably not, he's too egotistical and self centered to see it. He probably sees her cancer as another "burden" for him. Poor James, his mother has cancer.

I do not believe that Gordon Ray has dementia. Sure he's not as sharp as was at 60, he's a bit 'lighter in the mind'. But a medical diagnosis of dementia? I do not believe it. I think it's another defense con to get James off with a slap on the wrist. I don't know if the parents' medical records are allowed into the case, I feel fairly certain that Gordon Ray is not diagnosed with dementia.

He needs jail time, or he won't learn anything from this.

  3. Jeannika, I bet James is still in the property - short sale listings are still occupied by owners, that is an advantage of them to buyers: (James, Li and team probably lied about this too)

One advantage to both the bank and the seller is that unlike a bank-owned property, a short sale property is less likely to be trashed or ransacked. The owner will still be living in the home and while the property may be suffering from deferred maintenance because of the seller's financial situation, the seller is not likely to destroy the place when he or she still lives in it. By contrast, homeowners who lose their properties to foreclosure often take out their frustration on the house as a way of getting back at the bank. If the property is damaged, the bank won't be able to get as much money when it resells the home.

Along the same lines, because short sale properties are still occupied, they won't have suffered at the hands of unscrupulous people who have chosen to squat in or vandalize the property. Vandalism can be a common problem with foreclosure properties, especially in lower-income neighborhoods.

  4. I just read your bio, Jeannika. I don't know how in the world an artist, musician, composer and clearly a caring, wonderful writer can be disabled. You are clearly more "abled" than most people. Thank you for your wonderful blog.Thank you for sharing your talents and all this work with the rest of us. You are not disabled in my book, but then, I'm funny like that...

  5. Thank you so much for this digging. Has the lady from Tragedy in Sedona seen this because she must. Is it possible for you to let her know about your findings please. I never met the man but that is because I live in Scotland. I did read every one of his books and so very much wanted to attend his events and I am glad now that I didn't. My personal feeling is one of betrayal. I could feel forgiveness if he was truly sorry and truly tried to make amends but I guess he just cannot feel empathy for anyone but himself. I never wanted prison time for him but I now believe that it may be the only thing that will stop him hurting and lying and betraying others. The people who came to him did so with an open heart it is just a shame that he appears to have no feelings except for himself. How heartbreaking it must be for his parents to see how ruthless and uncaring he is.

  6. What a fantastic body of work! Thank you for putting this all together for us. JAR is the ultimate narcissist, liar, evildoer and I am sure that he has a small penis as well. Just a monster on so many levels. My hope is that he gets nailed in jail and is not protected. He is the most brilliant manipulator I have ever met, however, so I think that he will be able to mold the minds of those who are incarcerated with him, in short order. I am pleased that he got some jail time, but obviously disappointed in the length of sentence. I wish that the judge could have heard more stories from the people that JAR harmed simply by believing in his flawed logic. He claimed to want people to believe in themselves, but he actually twisted that into belief in him...hence the God complex. I can't write anymore, just thinking about his beady little eyes and his self important aura makes me feel sick. God bless the families of his victims, all of them.
